BCS50 conference on superconductivityCelebrating the Bardeen- Cooper- Schrieffer (BCS) Theory of SuperconductivityBCS50 conference. Time and location of the event: Wednesday-Saturday, October 10-13, 2007, Department of Physics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1957 BCS paper had three goals: 1. Highlight a physics discovery unique to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 2. Stress the intellectual impact of BCS on other areas of physics as well as technology 3. Raise public awareness of solid state physics. Each day of this four-day conference was dedicated to different aspects of superconductivity. The first day was devoted to the making of BCS—the history and people behind the theory. Current trends in superconductivity were featured on the second day, and on the third day, the technological impact of BCS was highlighted. The last day of the conference featured the impact of BCS on other areas of physics. |
